Berdj Asgian passed away at the beginning of December. We are now poorer!

Sunday, December 12 *, family members, former colleagues, friends and intellectuals participated at the funeral of Acad. Dr. Berdj Asgian, who passed away at the age of 86. Those who knew and loved him came to pay him a final tribute at the funeral service officiated by Father Silviu Negruţiu that took place at the Wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel.

Over 200 scientific papers published in professional journals in the country and abroad,  16 monographs and medical treatises and awards received along his 50 years career – among which we mention The Romanian Academy “Gheorghe Marinescu”  Prize, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Romanian Society of Electrophysiology, Professor Emeritus and Honorary Professor of  the University of Medicine of Târgu-Mureş, Knight of the Order “Faithful Service” (2003) –  allow us to better understand who Berdj Asgian was. In 1984 he founded the Department of Child Neuropsychiatry in Târgu Mureş which he led for ten years until he retired.

“We realize now that we are a little poorer than we were a few days ago. If we think at his intellectual and moral value we realize that professor Berdj Asgian leaves a void in his family, in the medical world and also in our society. The cemetery and its surrounding streets should be now full, for the amount of good Berdj Asgian did in his lifetime. I wanted this ceremony to be like a lullaby for the professor’s soul,” said Father Silviu Negruţiu.

A final tribute to the famous professor

Intellectuals, friends, family members and members of the big medical family in Târgu Mureş have come to bring a final tribute to the Professor who was buried on Sunday, December 12, in the cemetery behind the Wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel. “He was a man who really loved life, a man with a great civic and professional conscience. He was a great scientist, who knew how to choose between a value and a non value. He had a special civil attitude, something rarely seen today. Berdj Asgian leaves a great void in the hearts of all those who knew him but his scientific, moral and cultural values will always be with us. “May God rest his soul” said Zeno Ghiţulescu, a Romanian intellectual.

* Unfortunately, the Armenian community has learned about the disappearance of our distinguished compatriot too late and could not pay him the tribute he deserved. We do that now through Ararat magazine.
