Harry Tavitian gives a Jazz Concert at the Athenaeum in Bacau
Sunday December 12 in the Athenaeum Hall, Harry Tavitian presented an extraordinary concert that brought a great joy to the jazz lovers. In the beginning of the show, Varujan Pambuccian described in a few words this amazing pianist who impressed the audience with his music. After 35 years of jazz he had his first concert in Bacau, with the help of the Union of Armenians in Romania. The song that opened the concert was Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer”.
The audience participated at a short lesson of jazz history and understood the uniqueness of this music, “born from the suffering of black people.” Through jazz the audience ”witnessed something that was born, lived and died there on stage.” Then it was time for the Armenian origin tracks, and also for “The Old Balkan Rhapsody”, songs that received a lot of applause from the public.
The second part of the concert was composed of a series of carols, some with vocal accompaniment in English. This series was the result of 20 years of Christmas carols concerts. Those who attended the concert on Sunday were able to buy CDs with all these songs.
At the end of the concert the public did not stop applauding until Harry Tavitian was back on stage to perform another song.
