International Mother Language Day

On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, the Hellenic Union of Romania with the Russian Lipovan Community organized a special event. The event was attended by following communities : Albanian, Armenian, Hebrew, Italian, Greek, Macedonian, Hungarian and Russian Lipovan.

The event promotes the recognition and use of native languages in the world, especially those of minority groups. UNESCO proclaimed the 21st of February as the International Mother Language day. The program included artistic moments such as reciting poems plus listening to popular and traditional songs in their native language. Representatives of the Armenian minority, Hasmig Danielian and Mcrtici Baghdasarian recited two poems in the Armenian language.

Also on this occasion, Şcoala Tinerilor cu Initiaţivă Interculturală (STII), an intercultural initiative, proposed that the representatives of all minorities to join the organization in order to organise and achieve ethnic events in the future. Youth were involved in the organisation of the Armenian, Hungarian and Hebrew communities.

Finally, the deputy representative of the Greek Union in Romanian Parliament, Dragos Zisopol, invited all minorities to participate, as he did last year, to the carnival that will be held in March.
